With this the traditional puja tour ended.

Devi Durga at traditional houses

Devi Durga at Rani Rasmoni house
On Saptami, I with my parents went to visit Durga Puja at traditional houses. We went on a conducted tour package offered by the WB Tourism. We did visit some very old and traditional houses. Some Pujas are as old as 250 years and some has seen the start and end of British Raj in India. The above picture is taken at Rani Rasmoni's house. Though the house is in ruins now, the Durga Puja started by her still follows the rituals and lineage of the house.

Here is how the once beautiful and gorgeous palace looks now...

Our second visit was at: Pratap Chandra Chandra's house.

This is what a typical 'Thakur Dalan' looks like...

A Thakur Dalan is that place of the house where the Devi puja is performed. This place is typically decorated with round shaped  pillars and carved with designs. This is a segregated place in the house meant only for Goddess Durga. The other rooms of the house usually surrounds this place. The Thakur Dalan also has a big and wide verandah in the front. This is because during the time of Zamindars, dance performances were held in this area. This house has a small one. But many traditional have big and wide lawns in front of their Thakur Dalan.

Some other photographs of Durga Puja at Pratap Chandra's house...

The trip doesn't end here. I will be back with some new pictures...

I LOVE YOU, MY CAMERA.

The recent past

I haven't been blogging much. Rather for the past few months I was not even coming online. But this time around, I couldn't hold myself. I lost my brother three days back. He met with an accident, was admitted in a hospital where he breathed his last. I am yet to come out of this shocking incident. He was my cousin brother. My whole family is so incomplete now. It feels like someone has taken away one arm from the family. He was just 26. He was sitting behind his friend who was driving the bike when a matador coming from the opposite site smashed my brother. It was horrible to see him afterwards. Why aren't people a bit careful when they drive? Why doesn't the cars follow traffic rules? One life is gone. This is my request to everyone out there - Please follow traffic rules. You don't know whose family you would ruin otherwise.
